Camden Windward House’s location is ideal, in fact we have a walkability score of over 90%. I was so happy to learn that the Camden Public Library and the Camden Maine Downtown Business Group have collaborated on a walking tour of downtown. Not only is this tour entertaining and educational, but it keeps with the Windward House ideal of getting out of the car, reducing your footprint and seeing your environment.  The newly created walking tour is free of charge, donations welcome. The tour starts and finishes at the Camden Public Library in the Children’s Garden, Atlantic Avenue. Reservations are encouraged. Please call the Library at 207-236-3440 or stop by the Circulation Desk. Tour is approximately 1 hour-long.

Items of interest in the downtown:

Camden Opera House, The Great Fire District, the Village Green, The Camden Yacht Club, The Camden Public Library, The Camden Amphitheatre and Harbor Park (designed by Fletch Steel and the Olmstead Brothers – also designed NY’s Central Park), Camden Harbor. The Camden Amphitheatre is currently in the process of being designated as a National Landmark for Landscape design. This designation is expected to be received in 2013. Come and see the Amphitheatre and Harbor Park before the designation, I am sure people will flock here afterwards!

The town of Camden really is a delight to walk around anytime of the year, but spring, summer and fall are fantastic. The gardens on the public and private properties are a delight. If you like gardening, Camden is the town for you.

The Camden Public Library is across the street from the Camden Windward House Bed and Breakfast.
